Although I agree with shoujoboy on the differences in our "grading,"
it doesn't stick me. Okay, I lie. "A true Masterpiece" comment
followed by a "7," kinda seems awkward.
And yes, I can understand the anime centricity on scifi mecha as being a little
annoying. Though, shows that lack those often lack in other areas, such as eye
captivity and tension. Honestly, Last Exile didn't keep my attention. But,
perhaps I'll give it another shot from what I've read.
I honestly don't know what to make of it. It sounds like it really impressed
you, but I can't quite say it grabbed me by the same storm. (So to Speak,
anyway.)
Different storkes for different folks, I say. I do see and understand that
perople are subject to their own opinions. And though I personally liked the
series, I do believe that yes what you said can be argued.
Well, I have to say you represent the other side of the spectrum of MT go-ers
and kudos to you for being the first of that side to voice their opinions.
I personally feel that the Story should be rated from a 9.5 to a 10 and the
Characters about a 9. THis is just one of those animes you can't judge
everything in a bundle, especially in those areas.
The music itself was excellent in my opinion. Deserving of about a 10. But there
are some moments where the other sounds aren't as matching, but overall they do
a very good job of it.
The art was also variant. They have their strengths and their weaknesses, as you
pointed out.
But other than that, you reviewed well. And I would have to agree with most of
the points you brought up.
I hated the anime part of it, the manga was way better, so in all fairness, this
story deserves two ratings, the one you appended was definetley sufficeint for
the manga, the anime however fell way short deserving no more than a B rating of
about 8.2.
My only complaint was it's length, normally that isn't a sticking point with me,
but with this one, it is huge, because it was just too long, and I mean way too
long.
All though the comedy was very good, and it by far better thanInuYasha, which is
by the same person...I love the whole amazon girl scenes...those were just
priceless.
It's really meant to be a comedy in it all. And it did that very well, while
still keeping a good amount of everything else, the romance stuff, personal
strife, jealousy, and who could forget the action...by far, it's the best manga
I have read in the comedy side, at least until I read Negima, but it's still
number 2.
Overall I'd give it a B-, due to a lot of the same plots repeating themselves
and that gets old...there were only a few new plots through out the series. But
the ones that weren't re-used are still just as funny as when I first read
them.
The art isn't all to impressive, but it still gives a certain comedy to it all.
So that would get about a B...

And that's my opinions on the series.
It's gonna last three seasons...
